Paltalk Messenger

Paltalk’s main purpose is to help you stay in touch with relatives, friends, and other people you care about. You can text, audio, and video chat with contacts from your Windows-powered desktop, from your Android-powered smartphone, and from other platforms. All this wonderful functionality is offered to you for the great price of free.

Paltalk is available for multiple platforms: Windows, iOS, Android, Windows Phone. The Windows installation file is little over 13MB in size. Download this executable, run it, and a setup wizard will show up and guide you through the installation process. Please note that the aforementioned setup wizard will ask to install the Ask Toolbar and change your homepage and default search provider to Ask.com.

As is the case with applications of this type, you need to sign in to start using it. You can sign up with Facebook, or you can quickly create a new account. You will have to pick a nickname, choose a password, enter your email address, and choose a secret question/answer combo.

The interface is just what you would expect from a messenger application: a list of contacts so that you can start a conversation, buttons to set your status, File Menu at the top so you can access all the settings and preferences, buttons at the bottom to access the chat rooms and the calling capabilities. If you’ve ever used an instant messaging application before, you should immediately feel at home with Paltalk.

The functionality you get from Paltalk depends on the type of service you choose. With Paltalk Basic, you have access to unlimited text and voice chat, unlimited video IM with up to 10 people at the same time, access to more than 5,000 chat rooms, the option to create your own chat room, and support for chatting with AIM, Yahoo!, and ICQ users. Paltalk Extreme offers all these features plus these extra ones: unlimited streaming webcam videos, unique color highlights, no banner ads.
